BUILDING RESILIENCE AT HOME

Emergency Preparedness as a community begins in our individual homes. The more resilient we are as individuals and in our homes the less impact we have on emergency services and the stronger we are as a community. In this section we offer some tips on building resilience at home. These tips serve as general guidelines as individual circumstances may vary. You must make decisions that are best for your family and develop your plans to fit the needs of your family's dynamic.

build Go-Packs, Create a plan, stay informed, and update

BUILD GO-PACKS

Preparing Go-Packs is essential when an emergency occurs that requires evacuation. Go-Packs should include items necessary for survival for up to 3 days. Click the link to view suggestions on what to include in your Go-Pack.

CREATE A PLAN

Creating a detailed plan will ensure that you are ready to act when an emergency occurs and reduce the level of stress associated with responding to emergency situations. All members of the family should be included in the plan and knowledgeable of its contents. Click the following link to view suggestions of what to include in your plan.

STAY INFORMED

Disasters and emergencies can occur without warning and as time progresses the nature of the emergency can change. Stay informed and keep a list of resources to gather as much information as possible regarding the emergency in your area. This can be as simple as watching the movement of a storm to determine if your area will be impacted. Click the link for some suggested resources on how to stay informed.

UPDATE

Update everything as you go. Update your Go-Packs to ensure they are not filled with expired or damaged items. Update your plan to include any changes to family needs, locations etc. Update any pertinent information and resources that may improve your survival kits, plans and abilities.
